GTA 6 File Size and Storage Requirements
The GTA 6 file size is not yet announced by Rockstar. No install size, download size or storage requirement has been published for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, and the numbers circulating online are not from an official source. The practical advice is to free up space before launch day rather than to plan around a specific figure.
What is confirmed
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Rockstar has not announced a version for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2 or cloud streaming services.
Install sizes normally appear on the PlayStation and Xbox store pages once preorders go live. Those pages are not up yet, which is why no confirmed figure exists.
Preparing your console storage
Both launch consoles have limited internal space after the system reserves its own. On PlayStation 5 you can expand storage with a compatible internal M.2 SSD; on Xbox Series X|S you can use an official Storage Expansion Card. Games built for these consoles must run from internal or expansion SSD storage, not from an external USB hard drive, although a USB drive is fine for archiving games you are not playing.
A sensible plan is to archive games you have finished a week before launch, so a large day-one download does not leave you deleting things while everyone else is playing.
Day-one patches
Not yet announced by Rockstar. Large modern releases often ship a launch patch on top of the base install, which means the space you need can be larger than the store listing suggests.
